Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Ford South Africa) has confirmed that its updated Ford Territory will go on sale in South Africa in the coming weeks, signalling a renewed push in one of the country’s most hotly contested SUV segments.
The Territory, which first made its South African debut in May 2024, returns with refreshed styling, upgraded technology and an enhanced value proposition aimed squarely at young, family-focused buyers.
Ford South Africa says the latest iteration builds on the momentum of the outgoing model, positioning itself as a practical yet modern offering in a market increasingly dominated by feature-rich rivals from both established and emerging brands.
“Territory has always been about empowering young, dynamic families to get the most out of every day,” said Sunil Sewmohan, director of product marketing at Ford South Africa.
“With the new Territory, comfort and smart technology come to the fore.”

Under the bonnet, the updated model retains Ford’s 1.8-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, producing 138kW of power and 318 Nm of torque.
The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, a combination designed to balance performance with everyday efficiency.
The package is further supported by multiple drive modes, as well as convenience features such as adaptive cruise control—available on higher-spec Trend and Titanium derivatives—and Auto Start-Stop technology to improve fuel efficiency during urban driving.
Remotely interacting with a vehicle
A notable addition is the introduction of Ford’s app-based connectivity system for the first time on the Territory in South Africa.
This allows owners to remotely interact with their vehicle via smartphone, bringing the model in line with growing consumer expectations around digital integration and convenience.
Visually, Ford has also introduced new exterior paint options, including Cactus Grey and Oasis Green, aimed at enhancing the SUV’s premium appeal and differentiation in a crowded market.

The refreshed Territory enters a fiercely competitive segment where it will square off against rivals such as the VW Tiguan, Toyota Corolla Cross, Haval H6, Jetour Dashing, Omoda C7 and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro—all of which have gained strong traction among South African buyers.
With Chinese brands in particular intensifying pressure through aggressive pricing and high specification levels, Ford’s challenge will be to ensure the Territory remains competitive not only on brand strength, but also on value and technology.
Pricing yet to be confirmed
First customer deliveries of the new Territory are expected within weeks, with full local specifications and pricing still to be confirmed.
The relaunch comes at a time when SUV demand continues to dominate the South African market, making the Territory a critical product in Ford’s passenger vehicle line-up as it looks to defend and grow its share in this fast-evolving segment.
