De Jager says when he arrived at Welkom Secondary School, it was dysfunctional. That was a barrier to his goals and vision, but that did not stop him from achieving his mandate. Through teamwork, patience, resilience, and discipline he managed to improve the physical and learning environment, and academic performance of the school.
He is proud of what he has achieved so far. He says his mission is “continuing to instil self-discipline” in learners and for them to value education and change their lives for the better.
