A Mbombela municipality by-law enforcement officer is due in court on Monday for the murder of a traffic official.
The traffic officer and a woman had booked into the Kwanyoni Lodge about 15km outside Nelspruit when the woman’s husband arrived unannounced on Saturday night.
According Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, the woman’s husband rocked up in a chalet, kicked the door open and an altercation unfolded.
“It is further alleged that the traffic official ran out of the chalet and the husband followed him as he fired shots,” said Sekgotodi, adding that a broken bottle was found in a chalet.
“The victim was shot twice and succumbed to his injuries. The suspect then fled the scene.”
The crime scene was attended by the Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation team, the Nelspruit visible policing members, and the Nelspruit local criminal record centre.
The suspect later handed himself over to the police in Nelspruit where he was charged with murder.
His official firearm, used during the commission of the crime, was also seized.
Police investigations are continuing.
