TV presenter and comedian Tumi “Stopnonsons” Matila will on Friday know his fate when the Randburg magistrate’s court delivers judgment on his bail application.
Tumi Matila faces a charge of assault for allegedly beating up his girlfriend Thando Ngemane. He also faces more charges of pointing of a firearm and threatening to kill her and a friend.
Matila appeared in the same court on Thursday after he was detained at the Honeydew police station on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed at the time that a popular comedian had been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend.
“Police can confirm that a 31-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with assault and pointing of firearm,” said Masondo early this week.
“He is expected to appear before the Randburg magistrate’s court on Thursday, August 10.”
Matila, who is also known by his stage name Jumaimai, is the host of an SABC show Ikasi Lam, which airs every Saturday night.
His lawyer said the bail application has dragged on for long, noting that his client risks losing out on gigs he was booked for this weekend.
