Lehlogonolo Chauke, the controversial rapper from Limpopo known by his stage name Shebeshxt, appeared in court in absentia on Thursday, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)
Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the NPA spokesperson in Limpopo, said the matter was postponed to next week to enable Shebeshxt to produce a sick note.
“The accused, Lehlogonolo ‘Shebeshxt’ Chauke, has appeared in absentia at the Lebowakgomo regional court for pre-trial on a count of attempted murder,” said Malabi-Dzhangi.
“The accused could not attend court proceedings due to his sickness. The court postponed the matter to July 19, 2024, to enable him to provide a medical certificate to show his inability to attend court.”
Stabbing incident
The Monateng hitmaker was due in court for a case that was opened against him in 2022. He is out on bail and is due back in court for a trial.
Malabi-Dzhangi previously told Sunday World that a case was opened against Shebeshxt after he allegedly stabbed a man in Lebowakgomo.
Shebeshxt was released from the hospital last week, according to Lot Ramusi, the family’s spokesperson and attorney for the rapper.
At the time, Ramusi told Sunday World that the rapper was still in a vulnerable state and was recuperating at home.
Fatal car accident
“He is out of the hospital. He was discharged yesterday. He is recovering at home, and he is getting better,” Ramusi said at the time.
He could not ascertain if the rapper would be able to make a physical appearance in court.
Shebeshxt survived an accident that claimed the life of his nine-year-old daughter in Limpopo two weeks ago.
The musician’s car crashed into a truck while he was on his way to drop off his girlfriend and his daughter at their house before heading to Lebowakgomo for an ANC Siyanqoba rally celebration concert.
