COVID-19 claims another 13 lives

Another day has passed under lockdown level 4 and the number of COVID-19 cases has skyrocketed to 12 074 from 11 350 infections.

Thirteen more lives have been lost, bringing the national death toll to 219. This was announced by President Cyril Ramphosa while he addressed the nation tonight.

“This week, our country reached a sad moment in the progression of the coronavirus pandemic, as we recorded our 219th death from the disease. Every life lost is a tragedy,” said Ramaphosa

“There is clear evidence that the lockdown has allowed us to achieve our objective of delaying the spread of Covid-19 and avoiding a massive surge in infections that would have overwhelmed our health care system, ” said Ramaphosa.
