Coronavirus cases hike to 554

Confirmed coronavirus cases in South Africa have escalated to 554.

The update was presented by health minister Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday morning.


The numbers increased from 402 confirmed patients which was announced by the minister on Monday.

During his announcement, Mkhize said the numbers were still expected to take a hike in the next week.

“The rate at which the numbers are increasing, we expect the numbers will still increase for the next week.

“Once our programme tightens up, we should be seeing towards the end of the second or third week to see the reflection of the curve,” said Mkhize.

He urged people to abide by the regulations put it place to prevent the spread of the virus so the curve would take a positive turn.

Yesterday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will go into 21-days shutdown as of Thursday midnight.
