Heavily pregnant woman murdered and dumped next to the road

A heavily pregnant woman from Ixopo in KwaZulu-Natal has lost her life at the age of 35 after she was attacked a stone’s throw away from her home.

Busisiwe Ngubo, who was reportedly pregnant with twins, was found dead by the roadside in Hlanzeni location.

According to police, Ngubo was strangled and dumped next to the road.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the search for the perpetrator is continuing.

“Ixopo police are investigating a case of murder following an incident that occurred on 14 August 2023 at Hlanzeni location,” said Netshiunda.

“It is alleged that a 35-year-old woman was strangled to death by an unknown suspect. Her body was found on the side of the road.”

Ngubo, who was allegedly in a relationship with a police officer, left her home after receiving a call from her boyfriend.

She had told her family that she intended to travel to the hospital, as she was about to give birth to twins.

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu previously said everyone must be held accountable for the spike in cases of women abuse.

Addressing the second Presidential Summit on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in 2022, Zulu encouraged men to “do the right thing and protect women”.

“If we were to ask every woman and man about the pain they feel on a daily basis, when they wake up in the morning or walk down the streets, all of us walk in pain.

“We are not perfect, but we wake up in the morning, we show up and do the best that we can,” said Zulu.
