How crafty DA boxed in ANC in two weeks

The DA is alive to the possibility that party Leader John Steenhuisen might not clinch the deputy president post, but wishes the could be minister in the presidency to provide “arms-length” oversight on President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The portfolio of minister in the presidency would open the door for Steenhuisen to become the spokesperson for cabinet and also minister in the state security agency.


Whereas a full-blown coalition with the ANC could have been the DA’s first prize, given that all parties in a coalition come to the table as equal partners, Ramaphosa’s government of national unity (GNU) provided reasonable access to state power.
