‘I was urged to pay lobola for Letoya and her ancestors’ – Keswa

The drama between businesswoman Lebo Keswa and her estranged wife and actress Letoya Makhene is continuing. Keswa is accusing Letoya of being a pathological liar and of refusing help.

She also denied allegations that she stole money from the actress. Instead, she stated that she has been left in debt by Makhene, and is still paying her bills even after their breakup.

The businesswoman has also charged her estranged wife, stating that she is a liar. She said Makhene cheated on her and was the one who assaulted her first in the relationship.

“The biggest problem I have always had with Letoya is that she lies… I don’t know how many times I have sat her down and said, ‘Letoya, stop lying’. And she knows that I would rather go to jail for the truth than sit here and subject anyone to lies. Letoya lies, and it used to frustrate me. I have always caught her out [in the lie],” she said.

Response to Makhene’s earlier interview

Keswa was speaking to Sunday World following this publication’s earlier sit-down interview with Makhene. During her interview, Makhene confirmed the separation, stating that they had a number of issues. She said that Keswa was a narcissist who planted lies about her to hide her own trail.

Now, Keswa threw the stone right back at Makhene. She stated that she only assaulted Makhene in self-defence. This was after she took the punches a couple of times before.

“I am going to the point where I assaulted her in self-defence. She threw something at me and all I know is that it was glass. I retaliated badly [after she threw that at me].

“Letoya assaulted me first at our home in Northriding in 2021… This is after we got married. It was over an argument. She is the type who breaks things in the house. It started with breaking things the first time, and I was shocked. The second time, she assaulted me. We were arguing. I would be lying if I said I knew why. I called the father and I said, this is what is happening,” she said.

Keswa said that she had a sit-down with Makhene’s father, the legendary musician Blondie. He explained to her that, as a sangoma, the actress had ancestors in her who opposed her having sexual relations with another woman.

Makhene father’s warning about ancestors

“I sat down with her father and he gave her a lecture. He also mentioned that when I married her, she came with ancestors in her. And that one of them would be hitting me,” she said.

She said it was also clarified to her that when she married, she had to pay lobola for various ancestors. Because she was not just any other woman.

“My lobola was subdivided into four parts because I was paying for all her ancestors,” she said.

Keswa also denied that she refused to give back Letoya’s belongings. A truck with her belongings and muti was sent to the actress’ home in Tladi, Soweto.

She alleges that she does not owe Makhene a ndumba (Sangoma’s consultation room). This is because she built the ndumba for her.

“I have a book at home where I write all these things, like what Muti does. All these things I even typed out for her in a book. I am doing all these things for her. She had a… tendency. Maybe I shouldn’t blame her because her ndumba was so beautiful. She had a tendency to drink with people in her ndumba,” Keswa said.

She said she once found herself drinking with her friends in the ndumba. Keswa says she took the bottles and threw them out, which triggered the actress.

She said she left the ndumba and went into the main house, where the actress followed her.

Actress threw boiling water at Keswa

“I went to the bathroom and fortunately aunty saw me and told me that Letoya had boiled water. And as I walked in, she threw the boiling water at me,” she said.

Keswa said her friend advised her not to open a case because it was going to turn into a spectacle.

She said the case where Makhene burned herself was a separate incident that happened in December. This was when she was drunk and fell into hot water.

  1. Drama…Tjoohh. These rich comedians and their dirty linens… Why can’t everything end in peace no matter how wrong the other party is ???

  2. It’s good to read of celebs dirty linen dramas, yet why are people preferring going to the media for whatever reasons? Later it would look like cyber bullying when negative comments start flowing in.
