Loadshedding expected to ease as temperatures rise

For as long as power generation does not meet demands, there will always be loadshedding, according to Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramakgopa.

Briefing the media in Pretoria on Sunday morning, Ramakgopa said the briefing is important as it serves as an update on the country’s state of power crisis and improvements if there are any.

Even though he did not want to delve deeper into issues confronting Eskom, Ramakgopa acknowledged that small businesses are battling to operate and make profits due to constant loadshedding.

He further said the underperforming power stations are due to historic problems.

“We have noted considerable improvements on the generation side as we are entering less severe periods of cold, meaning the demand is going down as temperatures rise.

“However, those power stations that are still underperforming are caused by historic reasons.”

As a result, Ramakgopa urged municipalities to work with them in putting less pressure on the power stations to address electricity issues.

“We went to China through the Chinese government and ambassadors looking for the kind of assistance we need for key installations for places like schools, clinics, and hospitals.

“I cannot reveal the status of that particular process, but as soon as we see progress, we will update you again.”

The country is currently being load shed on stage one with stage three expected to commence at 4pm.
