Massive hunt for murderers of old Limpopo couple continues

Police in Vuwani in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for the people responsible for the murder of an old couple.

Two bodies of a 74-year-old man and his 58-year-old partner were discovered in their home in Lwamondo Tshifulanani village on Tuesday morning.

Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said police were alerted about the incident and upon their arrival at the scene, they found the couple lying in a pool of blood inside their bedroom. They had sustained several deep cut wounds.

“They were both certified dead on the scene. Preliminary police investigations indicate that intruders gained entry into the house by cutting the burglar door and forcing the door to open,” said Malesela.

The deceased have been identified as Nevondo Khorommbi and his partner Tshifhiwa Mercy Maphaha.

Meanwhile, provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the brutal murder of the couple.

He has given a directive that the killers responsible for “this heinous crime” be hunted down and brought to book.

The motive behind the brutal murder is unknown at this stage and police have opened two cases of murder for investigation.
