Nation shocked after Chicco drags son to cop shop for ‘phone theft’

Muso insults son for bringing his name into disrepute
The son of the legendary musician and producer Sello “Chicco” Twala spent the weekend in jail for allegedly stealing a cellphone.
Longwe Twala, 34, who has been in the news since the murder of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, in 2014, was dragged to the Diepkloof police station by his father on Wednesday — unleashing a viral video that shocked the nation.
Twala was arrested and locked up after he confessed to stealing his friend’s cellphone.
It is alleged Longwe was visiting his friend when he allegedly stole the cellphone.
In a police statement seen by Sunday World, Twala was at his friend’s house when the friend’s Huawei Y5 cellphone grew legs.
“The complainant alleged that on 20/01/07, at about 14:00, he was at home when he was visited by Mr Longwe Sidney Twala [sic]. He then went outside [bathroom] and left him [Mr Twala] inside the house with his cellphone. When he came back his cellphone was missing.
“He went to his father [Mr Sello Twala] and explained to him. He advised him to open the case. The suspect was arrested and confessed that he took it,” reads the statement.
In the video that has gone viral on social media, Twala can be heard shouting at his son and calling him names for bringing his name into disrepute.
“I’ve always said that I wish he was the one that killed Senzo Meyiwa so that he can rot in jail. I will never stand for this s**t. Bloody s**t. My name is destroyed. Everyone who sees Chicco Twala they see a criminal.
“They see a druglord, they see all this s**t. I worked hard for my name, bloody s**t”. Senzo Meyiwa, stealing from people, drugs and all of that, I can’t stand this s**t. You fucken bastard,” he is heard saying.
NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwane declined to comment as she was still waiting for a statement.
Attempts to reach Twala were unsuccessful.
