Do we love South African Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago? Grudgingly, perhaps.
But suffering South African consumers took note that while two of his colleagues voted for a steeper hike in interest rates, three members of the committee voted for a hold.
Why the two members voted for an increase of 25 basis points, is a question for economists to figure it out.
But, for a change, we, the suffering consumers, are happy that Kganyago showed some restraint, arguing that the headline inflation has been coming down over the past few months, even as he acknowledged the slight rise announced by Stats SA on Wednesday, was worrying. Kudos to you, governor Kganyago.
