Zulu: what are you doing to pensioners?

Zulu: what are you doing to pensioners?

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has nothing substantive to offer in defence for the shabby way her department treats recipients of social grants, most of whom are pensioners.

Zulu and the senior officials in her department have not come out in the open to explain what “glitches” there were, if any.

Why do they think it appropriate to fail paying senior citizens their grants on time?

By definition, a social welfare department should care and refrain from making flimsy excuses for not doing the right thing – which is to show compassion to thousands upon thousands of grant recipients who by the time of writing this leader had not yet received what is due to them.

To do the right thing is honourable.

Zulu and her department must immediately correct “the glitch”, and cough up.

Whatever the reason, it is unacceptable for the South African Social Security Agency to delay payment of social grants to pensioners.

Let the people have what is due to them, sooner than later.
