The South African Football Association (Safa) takes home the distinguished moegoe of the week honours after its bid to host the 2027 Fifa Women’s World Cup collapsed like a pack of cards.
The association launched its effort to host the 2027 event at the Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand but did not have finances and government guarantees. As a result, it has had to embarrassingly abandon its plan.
The association is plagued by financial difficulties, resignations and retrenchments. Its flagship, Bafana Bafana, have been struggling to qualify for Fifa World Cups and are no longer the powerhouse they used to be in the Africa.
