Last seen heading to hospital

Provincial police spokesperson Sgt. Mahlomola Kareli said Pheko was last seen by his family in the early hours of last Wednesday when he went to the hospital.

“In the early hours of July 10, 2024, the 37-year-old Pesa Pheko was last seen by his family leaving their house at L-Section to board public transport to Bloemfontein for his hospital appointment and he has since not returned home. Police, family and colleagues tried to contact him, but to no avail.

“He was wearing a long green bomber jacket, a black pair of jeans, black sneakers and a grey beanie on his head. The family went to Botshabelo [the police station] to report him as missing and the station launched a search party,” said Kareli.

Kareli said anyone who might know about Pheko’s whereabouts is requested to contact Captain Sego of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit at 0781849105 or Office 0515076622.

Criminals pounce on elderly woman

Meanwhile, Kareli said police are on the hunt for three unknown armed suspects who attacked an elderly woman in Bergman Square, Bloemfontein, robbed her of money and raped her multiple times.

“On Saturday, July 13, 2024, at about 03:00, the 65-year-old woman was resting with other relatives at her house after overnight preparations for the burial of a loved one. While in their bedrooms, they heard sounds of someone breaking the door, and three unknown males armed with knives stormed into the house and went straight to the 65-year-old’s bedroom, demanding money.

“The 15-year-old boy who was sleeping with the grandmother was stabbed in the head and arm. The suspects took cash they found on the grandmother and one of them forced himself on her, raped her while in the house and dragged her outside, where he raped her again. The suspects took electronics from the house before they fled the scene.

“The grandmother managed to scream for help and neighbours came to her rescue, but the suspects had already fled the scene.  Bloemspruit police were summoned to the scene and are investigating a case of house robbery and two cases of rape. No one has been arrested yet. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Nombi Peter of Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on 083 383 6969, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or drop an anonymous tip off on the MySAPS App,” said Kareli.
