Popular Thobela FM kiddies show host Johannah “JJ Menu” Sebolaishi-Seloga has passed away following an illness.
Seloga, who is famous among young listeners and parents for her calming voice and coining the phrase bakgotse baka ba botsana botsana (my beautiful friends), passed away in hospital on Monday.
The nature of her illness has not been disclosed, however, Thobela FM management confirmed her passing in a post on the radio station’s social media page.
She was 39 years old at the time of her death.
Seloga was the host of kiddies show Lesang Bana, Mahlasedi and Thobamatswalo Remmogo, among other shows on the Polokwane-based station.
News of her passing sent shockwaves in the entertainment industry with the Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) describing her as the most flexible broadcaster.
“The Limpopo Artists Movement is shocked after learning of the passing of the industrious, multitalented Thobela FM presenter known to legion of her listeners as JJ Menu,” LAM chairperson Mphoza Mashabela said.
“Menu had the most flexible approach to broadcasting. From hosting a show meant for a family listenership to hosting a religious show targeted at children.
“She had a special gift which naturally ignited a love for proficient reading in Sepedi for the little ones and the knowledge of biblical teachings.
“Menu was still young and we all looked forward to seeing her grow in leaps and bounds within the entertainment sector.
“To the Seloga family, we can never fully know how hurtful this loss is especially for you. However, we confirm that the entertainment sector has lost a true legend in the making.”
Seloga was born in Mokopane in Limpopo and was raised in Mamelodi East, Pretoria.
She went back to Mokopane where her radio broadcasting journey started at the local station before joining Thobela FM in 2007 as a kiddies’ show presenter.
Details about a memorial service and Seloga’s funeral service will be shared in due course.
