A Joburg church leader was stabbed multiple times by his wife in a domestic violent incident that occurred at their Midrand home on Friday.
Prophet Joseph Joel Ssali, of Prayer House Fellowship, was knifed several times by his wife Mandisa Ssali after accusing him of cheating on her.
The 28-year-old wife was arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and was released on bail when she appeared in the Midrand magistrate court on Tuesday.
The man of the cloth was also arrested for malicious damage to property after his wife alleged that he damaged their household furniture and her cellphone during the incident which sent shockwave among their congregants. According to a detective, who did not want to be named because he is not allowed to speak to the media, the prophet arrived at his home on Friday where his wife confronted him and asked him why he was seeing other women “in a biblical sense”.
It is alleged a fierce argument erupted between the two when the wife insisted on wanting to know why the 34 year-old seer was sowing wild oats with other women. The soothsayer, said the detective, blew his top , grabbed a sharp instrument and started smashing their household furniture, including a television set and a music system.
Afterwards, said the detective, he grabbed his wife’s cellphone and smashed it to smithereens.
“The wife rushed to Midrand police station and opened a case of malicious damage to property against the bible-puncher.
He was arrested and detained at the Midrand police holding cells for the weekend and released on bail,” said the detective.
The detective said after being released on bail, the clergyman opened a counter case of grievous bodily harm against his wife on Monday.
She was also nabbed and released on bail on Tuesday when she appeared in the Midrand magistrate court.
The detective’s version of events were corroborated by two police statements which we have seen.
The first statement reads in part: “Prophet Joel Ssali from Prayer House Fellowship was detained on Friday for domestic violence and malicious damage to property. He damaged the cellphone of his wife and household property.”
The second statement reads in part: “The prophet opened a counter charge case… and the wife Mandisa Ssali (28) was arrested and detained at Midrand on Monday 2023-10- for assault GBH. She stabbed her husband on the right hand after accusing him of having an affair.”
NPA south Gauteng’s spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that the couple has been released on bail and will appear in court again for
mediation.
