Protection unit who assaulted motorist on N1 under IPID’s radar

The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Tuesday started its investigations into the assault matter, which went viral on Monday, against members of Protection Security Services in SAPS.

Footage shows members of SAPS assaulting the driver of a VW Polo and his passengers on the N1.

The IPID investigators aid it has since made contact with family members of the victims to assist them with the process to lay charges against the officials.


In addition IPID also engaged with the SAPS management who agreed to fully cooperate as far as the IPID Investigation is concerned. 

National Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathe says the police officers involved in the attack have been served with notices of suspension.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile, who acknowledged that the unit is connected to his VIP security, has condemned the brutal force used.
