A robber from Mpumalanga succumbed to his injuries in hospital after he accidentally shot himself during a crime spree.
Selvy Mohlala, spokesperson for police in Mpumalanga, said the deceased was part of a group that committed a business robbery and broke into several homes on a plot in Vosman earlier this week.
The group demanded cash and stole a white VW Jetta and a safe containing a firearm.
“They shot and killed the car owner after he untied himself during the robbery,” Mohlala said, adding that while reaching out for a wallet in the stolen vehicle, the deceased accidentally shot himself in the leg.
“Instead of his accomplices assisting him, they reportedly drove off, leaving him behind bleeding profusely. The injured man was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries,” said Mohlala.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered after the victims of a burglary chased the robbers, who opted to abandon the vehicle with the safe and firearm while fleeing.
The police in Vosman are investigating this incident.
