Shooting, revenge attack leave two security officers dead

A shooting and a revenge attack have resulted in the deaths of two security officers who worked for the same company in Malaeneng village in Limpopo.

In the first incident, a security officer is said to have gone out searching for his colleague and later shot him dead at the weekend.

According to police in Dennilton, a 29-year-old security guard booked a service firearm and went on a frantic search for his 40-year-old colleague.

Frightened wife surrenders hubby’s whereabouts

During his search, the officer ended up at his colleague’s house where he found the wife whom he threatened to kill unless she surrendered her husband’s whereabouts.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the man left after the wife had directed him to where her husband was.

“She informed him that her husband was attending a wedding in the same area as their house. The fuming [security] officer then left,” said Mashaba.

Once the man had left the house, the wife, according to Mashaba, shouted for help and related her encounter with the man to a neighbour.

Neighbour’s revenge attack

“The neighbour took his firearm and followed the security guard. The 29-year-old security guard found the wedding venue and upon arrival he allegedly shot at the 40-year-old man who worked with him and he dropped dead.

“A few moments later, the neighbour, aged 66, arrived and shot at the 29-year-old security guard and he died on the scene.”

The emergency crew found the two men laying in a pool of blood in the street with gunshot wounds, according to Mashaba.

The men, identified as Chris Mahlangu and Mpho Mothoveni were certified dead on the scene.

The neighbour has been arrested and faces a count of murder. He is expected in the Moutse magistrate’s court soon.

Police are investigating two cases of murder.
