Siyamthanda Kolisi, the flanker and captain for the Springboks, and his wife Rachel Kolisi have announced their divorce.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday night, the couple, who have been married for eight years, revealed their separation.
The couple posted a statement claiming that they will be co-parenting their two children and that they ended their relationship peacefully.
Divorce is amicable, couple says
“We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage,” said the statement.
The statement further explains that the decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding. And that this is the best path forward for both of them.
“While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known.
“We will also continue working together on the Foundation that means so much to us. And we are grateful for the love, understanding, and support you’ve shown us. We kindly ask for your respect as we navigate this transition.”
The two tied the knot at an A-list Boland wedding in the Western Cape in 2016.
The news of their separation comes after Kolisi returned home from France. He has just left Racing 92, a French professional rugby union club based in the Hauts-de-Seine department, Paris.
Just returned from France stint
Kolisi ended his association with the French club to rejoin the Sharks in Durban. This ended months of speculation over his future at club level.
The South African professional rugby union player currently captains the South Africa national team. He formerly played for the Stormers and (French) Racing 92. Kolisi currently plays for Sharks in the URC. He generally plays as a flanker and a loose forward.
He became too important and typically allowed the fame and money to go to his head. Just shows, he’s just a normal guy.
Or she could not stand his growth.
Who really cares? Aren’t there more important things happening in the world than a rugby player going through a divorce? A guy who spends his life chasing a ball is getting divorced—big deal. He’s neither the first nor the last.
Lol
In All Due Respect leave the couple to deal with their divorce. It takes courage to announce it to the public due to people making negative comments. They are also human and have emotions. Been in the public eye they may feel it’s better to announce it before rumors start and it will have an impact on the kids lives and they trying to avoid their kids been taunted.
So true
i dont even understand why they have to announce it to the press its their own private matters or are they both seeking publicity …. their lot of people that get divorced every day and lots of celebrity s why do they have to make it known ….and they will be getting paid for their announcement by one or other magazine … so its also about money
This is foolish, they don’t respect their kids. Nature, kids must grow up with their parents together not like this. I wonder why l wonder
I wonder if anyone here knows why they took such a decision, seeing that some of the comments are already judging 1 partner. Remember a marriage is a partnership so whatever happened between them we don’t know yet so let’s not put a blame on Siya because it’s gonna sound like we’re celebrating this divorce based on race instead of real issues
Get your self a real strong black woman Siya
May the Lord Jesus bless this couple , I believe they tried hard to cope with different views of people around them, speaking negatively , about their marriage , and not knowing to rather pray for them. They only need our support as South Africans. Please be more sensitive to the hurt of a divorce. We don’t know how much both of them went through , especially because they come from different backgrounds. I know Siya as a sincere Christian who always lift up his hands to thank God whenever the springboks score or wins a game. I hope both of them will come out strong, this difficult challenge.
