. . . and other stories that shocked Mzansi
There’s only one scandal that sums up 2019. It is the year of the Tiger!
That’s how best to reflect on the hilarious, juiciest and sometimes saddest stories that rocked Mzansi. Our scandal of the year involves ANC national chairman and Minister of Mineral Resources Gwede Mantashe and Finance Minister Tito Mboweni’s sexual escapades with 23-year-old Lerato Habiba Makgatho.
So juicy was the expose that Mantashe, instead of answering questions about his extramarital relationship with a woman young enough to be his daughter, he accused two Sunday World journalists of having taken a R70 000 bribe from him to make the story go away.
The two government ministers were exposed to have been two timed by the temptress for months while she enjoyed cash gifts from them.
However, it was Makgatho’s bedroom reviews of the politicians that shocked and humoured the country – making the story trend on Twitter
for almost a week – with her describing Mantashe as a tiger in bed.
Makgatho had said Mboweni was a stingy, conventional man who preferred to switch off the lights before having sex under blankets. In the story, Mantashe was exposed as a blesser of note, with Makgatho gleefully boasting of receiving between R10 000 and R15 000 for her upkeep from him.
Other scandals that topped the headlines and ignited social media debates include singer Busiswa’s assault drama that also exposed juicy details about her sexual escapades with her sidekick.
Sunday World reported that the popular singer and poet had opened a case of assault against her baby daddy, DJ Katlego “Kaygee” Mlangeni, at Midrand police station, claiming that he had assaulted her during an argument.
However, it turned out after Mlangeni released a statement that he had caught the singer in bed with another man. Busiswa dismissed Mlangeni’s claims and said the DJ just rocked up unannounced and started beating her.
Another notable scandal involved the latest details about the killing of North West businessman Wandile Bozwana.
Sunday World reported details about the police investigation and revealed a number of politicians who are being investigated by the police for the murder of the businessman.
Sunday World revealed details contained in a§davits by witnesses which showed that former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo and former Rustenburg mayor Matthew Wolmarans were allegedly behind the hit on Bozwana and other politicians in North West.
Sunday World also reported that Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula was declared a person of interest a¤er the police discovered that he had been in contact with some of the hitmen and that he owed Bozwana about R2 -million at the time of his killing.
Another scandal still fresh from the tabloid ovens is that of Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa, whose sexual escapades with one of his MMCs, Sheila Senkubuge, shook social media.
The final scandal involves the former Orlando Pirates coach, Micho Sredojevic, who resigned from the PSL club in a huff , only for details to emerge he had tried to force himself on an elderly cleaner at a hotel.
Sunday World reported in August that Micho was wanted by Norwood police for indecent exposure.
