Tip-off leads Cape police to stash of cocaine worth R400m

A tip-off has led the police in the Western Cape to a truck transporting drugs with an estimated street value of R400-million.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said: “It is reported that on Thursday, 4 August 2022, the team followed up on information about a truck suspected to be transporting drugs. An operation was organised on the N1 freeway and the truck was spotted at Winelands Engen garage travelling towards Cape Town.”

Hani added that the truck was intercepted and a search was conducted wherein a large quantity of drugs was found hidden in false wooden boards at the back of the vehicle.

Three men between the ages of 39 and 47 were arrested and are expected to appear at the Athlone magistrate’s court in Cape Town on Monday.
