The O.R Tambo International Airport is experiencing extensive delays due to an alleged unauthorized drone flying in the airspace.
FlySafair, an airline based at the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, said on Thursday that the average delay is approximately 60 minutes, with potential further disruptions to other flights.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and want to assure affected passengers that our teams are working diligently with the relevant authorities to address the issue and restore normal operations as quickly as possible,” the airline said.
“The airport teams are working diligently to resolve the issue and restore normal operations swiftly.”
The airline added that it will keep affected passengers updated on their travel times via SMS.
“Please keep an eye on your messages for any updates. We would like to extend our apologies to the customers of these flights for the inconvenience, and we thank them for their patience in allowing us to always act conservatively in the interest of safety.”
