Floyd Shivambu introduces Mayibuye to King Misuzulu, pledges to support traditional rulers

The interim leader of Mayibuye, Floyd Shivambu, has introduced the movement to AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

Shivambu introduced the movement to the king on Monday at KwaKhangelamankengane royal palace in Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

That was a day after Shivambu met with volunteer members of the movement in Durban as part of the movement’s consultation process across the country.

According to a royal communique issued after the meeting, Shivambu pledged to support the structure of traditional leadership.

“The delegation, led by its president, Mr Floyd Shivambu, was received at KwaKhangelamankengane royal palace, KwaNongoma, where they formally introduced themselves to His Majesty, presented the movement’s objectives, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting inclusive development and strengthening partnerships with traditional leadership.

“The visit marked the beginning of a cooperative relationship rooted in cultural respect, unity, and progress.

“His majesty warmly acknowledged the initiative, noting the importance of such engagements in aligning contemporary movements with the enduring heritage and leadership of the Zulu Kingdom,” reads the communique issued on Monday afternoon.

Hands off traditional leaders

Meanwhile, during his address to Mayibuye volunteers in Durban on Sunday, Shivambu accused the MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, of engaging in an attempt to undermine the structure of traditional leadership in the province.

He alleged that Buthelezi is behaving as if he has the power to dethrone traditional leaders in the province, and he has been intimidating a lot of them.

“We are saying that the institution of traditional and royal leadership must not be interfered with by politicians; they must be allowed to regulate themselves.

“If there are disputes within the traditional leadership, there must be a mechanism that is presided over by Isilo Samabandla [King Misuzulu] to say, ‘let us resolve our crisis without the interference of politicians’.

“We know what politics has done to the institution of traditional leadership. So, we are saying decisively that the politicians must stay out of the institution of traditional leadership and allow traditional leaders to regulate themselves and give them proper responsibilities on how they must handle their affairs,” Shivambu said.

Buthelezi, the former traditional prime minister of the Zulu nation, has laughed off Shivambu’s claims, stating that he is the one who protects traditional leaders and the institution of traditional leadership.
