MEC under fire for Christmas parties

Northern Cape education MEC Zolile Monakali is under fire after allegations that he used the department’s resources to score political points ahead of next year’s national and provincial elections.

Monakali hosted three Christmas parties for the elderly in the province and handed out food parcels to 250 pensioners over the age of 60.

Ronald Februarie, a ward councillor in the Siyathemba local municipality, which falls under Pixley ka Seme district municipality, in Prieska, accused Monakali of using resources for education to host Christmas parties for the benefit of the ANC supporters.
