Drip Footwear founder crosses swords with estranged wife

A war has broken out between Drip Footwear CEO and founder Lekau Freddy Sehoana and his wife Lebogang over the ownership and shares of the company that manufactures the popular sneaker.

So serious is the imbroglio that the businessman opened a case of extortion against his wife at Midrand police station early in April.

Lebogang also allegedly tried to get the businessman arrested when she unleashed the police on him about two weeks after he cocked a snook at her demands to give her 50% shares of the company.

The riveting details, which have been covered in a veil of secrecy, came to the fore after Sehoane opened a case of extortion against his wife at the Pretoria Central police station a fortnight ago.

In a police statement which we have seen, Sehoana said Lebogang tried to extort money from him when she demanded shares from his company apparently during a meeting in Waterfall in 2021.

When he refused to succumb to her pressure, she threatened to soil his reputation in the media.

“The complainant alleged that his wife is demanding shares from his company by threatening him that she will go to the media and destroy him there,” reads the statement.

“She demanded more money exceeding the agreement they have made.”

A source close to the couple alleged that tension between the lovebirds started a long time ago but escalated two weeks ago after Lebogang went to the police and complained that her husband had refused to give her shares in the company even though they jointly incorporated it.

The deep throat said Lehoana arrived at the police station and poured cold water over claims by his wife that they jointly started the company.

He said he told the police that he started the company alone shortly after they separated in 2020.

The Limpopo-born businessman, said the informant, also told the police that they have no jurisdiction to entertain the case against him because it is a civil and not a criminal matter.

“It was only then that the police realised that she was just malicious and told her that there was nothing they could do about it. They then advised her to file a lawsuit against him,” said the tipster.

The mole also said the two, who have been living apart for over three years, are in the process of divorcing after Lehoana told her that he no longer has the hots for her.

The source alleged that Lebogang told Sehoana that because she still holds the torch for him, she would not agree to divorce and suggested that they rekindle their love and fix their faltering union, but he refused.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed that Lehoana has opened a case of extortion against his wife.

“We can confirm that a case of extortion has been opened at Pretoria Central Police and the investigation is underway,” he said.

Both Lebogang and Sehoana  couldn’t be reached for comments at the time of going to print.
