The annual Crown Gospel Music Awards celebrates 16 years of grace this year, and Gauteng has been chosen as the host province for the 16th instalment.
The media launch of the 16th instalment of the awards took place at the Wanderers Club Protea Hotel in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.
For the past 15 years, the Durban International Convention Centre has been the home of the gospel music awards.
Founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule reflected on the journey that her brainchild has embarked on.
“This is indeed what the Lord has made. It was back in 2006 when I became pregnant with something that was more than an idea,” said Mbokazi-Nkambule.
“I flew all the way to America for the Dove Awards and then went to Nigeria, however, nothing spoke to what I wanted.
“I came back and shared my idea with the team. Today reminds me of the year 2007, when I announced the launch of the awards.”
She said the awards have been a journey of faith because there had been many years when she was close to giving up.
“The Crowns have become an institution and it takes a great team for them to become successful,” she said.
“Delivering kingdom excellence is our name, it is very rare to have 15 years of partnerships.”
MEC for arts and culture in Gauteng Morakane Mosupyoe said in the new season, the province will turn the awards around.
“We as the province are going to make sure that we sign with Mbokazi-Nkambule for at least seven years,” said Mosupyoe.
“This year’s awards promises to be bigger and better. As we embark on this journey, we look back on the power that gospel music has on society.”
The awards will take place at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on November 26.
