Banyana Banyana’s World Cup bonus situation has not been resolved, with only a week to go before they play their opening match against Sweden on Sunday.
In a new development, Safa is not paying the technical team the R115 000 that was announced at the Motsepe Foundation press conference, where a R6-million bail-out was given to the association.
Instead, Safa has given the technical team a revised contract, and the players and technical team are disputing the association’s new deal.
South African Football Players Union president Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe told Sunday World the players are in solidarity with the technical team members and they too have not signed their contracts.
“Everyone (players and technical) has not signed as a matter of principle. Safa are backtracking and they cannot come up with new watered-down terms. There was an agreement that they will pay R115 000 (half of R230 000 that will be paid to the players).
“There was an announcement made to the public and the Minister of Sports Zizi Kodwa, Safa, the players and the media were there. The agreement must be honoured,” he said.
Safa CEO Lydia Monyepao and CFO Gronie Hluyo were not available for comment.
