Cape Town City’s battle to maintain their Betway Premiership status through Promotion/Relegation Play-Offs starts on Saturday, June 14, against Casric Stars at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
City was initially lying 14th before SuperSport United and Golden Arrows. However, they abandoned the match, and only dropped to the 15th position after a replay of that match. The match ended in a 1-all draw.
The draw in that match gave Matsatsa a Pitori a goal different upper hand over City as the Tshwane-based side moved to the 14th position. The two sides finished their season with 29 points each.
City felt hard done by the Premier Soccer League (PSL), which has rescheduled the abandoned SuperSport United match against Golden Arrows to continue from where it was stopped in the second half for this Thursday.
Power failure disruption
Both United and Arrows were tied to a 1-1 draw when the match was abandoned due to the power failure at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville almost four months ago.
The match against Casric forms part of the four matches the Cape side will have to work hard to win the battle. That is if they still want to see themselves playing in the topflight league come next season. Casric earned their passage through to these play-offs after finishing on the third spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The match against City will be the second one for Casric. Their first match will be against Orbit College FC at their own backyard. The match will be held at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga on Wednesday, June 11.
Play-offs continue
The play-offs will continue on Wednesday, June 18. Orbit College will be welcoming Cape Town City at the Olympia Park in Rustenburg before Saturday, June 21. Orbit will be hosting the return leg against Casric at the same venue.
The last two matches will be played in Kwamhlanga and Cape Town. Casric takes on Cape Town City at home (Solomon Mahlangu Stadium) on June 21. This will be followed by Cape Town City’s match against Orbit away in Cape Town. The match will be on June 28, and kick-off for all the matches is 3pm.
