Soweto has taken swimming to another level with the 2023 Soweto Swimming Tournament (SST) kicking off on October 7.
The tournament will be held at the White City Jabavu swimming pool.
This exciting event, envisioned and brought to life by Lumka Menye, is not only about competition, but is also a celebration of the growing number of individuals embracing swimming as a beloved aquatic sport.
The SST provides a vital platform for swimmers to showcase their skills, compete with peers, and foster a sense of togetherness within the swimming community.
With a focus on inclusivity and encouraging participation, the tournament aims to inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to dive into the world of swimming.
Menye said the tournament is more than just a competition, noting that it is an opportunity for swimmers across the country to gather in one space and learn about the sport.
“This tournament is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our athletes,” Menye said.
“The SST is more than just a competition, it’s an opportunity for swimmers to grow, learn, and inspire. We are proud to see the increasing interest in swimming as a sport.”
The event is set to kick off early in the morning (8.30am) and promises a day filled with thrilling races and outstanding performances by both seasoned community athletes and up-and-coming talents.
Spectators can expect to witness incredible feats of athleticism and sportsmanship as swimmers take to the pool to demonstrate their passion for swimming.
