Chiefs need three points, more goals to secure top-eight spot

The last round of the DStv Premiership matches is on the horizon, and Kaizer Chiefs will be up in arms searching for three points against the Cape Town Spurs in their mission to seal a top-eight finish.

Amakhosi and Spurs will lock horns at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday. The match gets under way at 3pm.

The battle for finishing inside the top eight will go down to the wire, as Chiefs are tied on 36 points with AmaZulu FC and Polokwane City.

Amakhosi are, however, sitting uncomfortably on number eight with a slender one-goal difference advantage and will need not just a win but to score as many goals as possible to be on the safe side.

Top-eight spot

Ahead of the must-win clash against the Motsepe Foundation Championship-bound Spurs, defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe emphasised the importance of getting maximum points.

“This last game is still very important, and we are preparing very seriously in order to solidify our spot in the top eight,” Ditlhokwe told Chiefs media.

“They may already be relegated, but that can make them dangerous because they have nothing to lose, and we have a lot to lose.

“Therefore, we are preparing to be at our best because there is a chance of the other teams on the same points overtaking us, which is why we are focused first and foremost on winning against Spurs and hopefully scoring a few goals.

“Every player is fully motivated to get the result we need, especially for our supporters, who have been behind us all the way, even when we haven’t done so well.

“So, we really want to end the season well and give them something to look forward to next season.

Lessons learned and experiences gained

Reflecting on what was a tough debut campaign, the former SuperSport United star believes that despite blowing hot and cold along the way, there are many positives that they will take going into next season.

“As we come to the end of the season, in my opinion, it hasn’t gone as well as I had hoped,” he said.

“But, with each and every challenge that one faces, there are always lessons to be learned and experiences to be gained.

“So, it is important to focus on the positives and work on carrying them forward.”

The towering centre-back has had his own fair share of setbacks this season as a Glamour Boy, having had to spend time on the sidelines during the start of the season due to injury.
