Court hears how Pitso was abused by Motsepe’s relative

Just when the multimillion-rand legal battle involving Mamelodi Sundowns, Pitso
Mosimane, and MT Sport is right at its penultimate phase, pending the final judgment, the Johannesburg High Court has heard how Mosimane was verbally abused by one of Patrice Motsepe’s relatives.

It alleged that words like “ek gaan jou moer” (I will beat you up), and “you will be fired” were used against Mosimane leading up to his resignation from
Sundowns in 2020.

This past week, the heated high-profile civil case resumed, where Sundowns is demanding that MT Sports director Moira Tlhagale repay the commission in agent’s fees, amounting to R8.6-million after Mosimane resigned to join Al Ahly – two months after he signed a
four-year deal during the 2019/20 season.

“Mr Mosimane was forced to apologise for stating that there were people inside the team who were working against him. Dr [Rejoice] Simelani claimed that the statements brought the club into disrepute but could not state whether the statements were true or not,” said Advocate Ngcukaitobi, who represents Mosimane and Tlhagale.

“There was a Thabo [Lekuma], who was understood to be related to the president (Motsepe), and who had said in front of the whole technical team that Mr Mosimane would be fired from Sundowns and that he would not finish the season.

“And Mr Mosimane had said he told Dr Simelani about this, and her response [during cross-examination in June] was that ‘Yes, I remember that my lady, I remember that now,
my lady’.

“The witness here admits the facts that I put to him. Then, number two, he says there was also a man called Cedric [Lekuma], who was also a supporter of Sundowns running a campaign against him (Mosimane)  – swearing and calling for him to be fired,” Ngcukaitobi added.

“The coach also said he told you Dr Simelane in a meeting as well and her response was: ‘He probably did [report the incident], my lady.’ That is another admission. And then the third incident was Hendi (head of security) who swore at Pitso and said to him ‘ek gaan jou moer’.

“In other words, the head of security threatened Pitso, then what does Dr  Simelani say? ‘I have no comments.’ Irrespective of this being true, by him having gone public on this
matter, he was putting the name of the team into disrepute,” Ngcukaitobi said.
Judge Shanaaz Mia reserved judgment until further notice.
