English Premier League Player of the Season contenders

The English Premier League is drawing closer to the end of the summit, with football lovers witnessing one of the most exciting seasons in a two-horse league race between Manchester City and Arsenal.

This season, Newcastle United emerged as the surprise package and five games away from sealing a Uefa Champions League spot ahead of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspurs.

Here are some of the player of the season contenders:

Erling Haaland:
Goal scoring machine Erling Haaland has contributed immensely to Manchester City’s title challenge with Arsenal this season, with his match-winning goals and hattricks.
In his first season in the Premier League and at just 22-years of age, Haaland has already broken the all-time goal-scoring record by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, of scoring in a
single season.
Haaland has been scoring goals for fun, banging in a total of 51 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions and contributing to almost half of City’s goals.
He has been a nightmare for defenders all season and has made the Citizens a much more feared side to go up against.

Martin Odegaard:
The Arsenal skipper has been sublime this season and has proven on many occasions that coach Mikel Arteta made no mistake by trusting him with the captain’s armband.
Odegaard certainly brought some spark and something different to the young and energetic Gunners side, by scoring crucial goals and providing assists week in week out.
The Norwegian international has been likened to former Arsenal midfield maestro Mesut Ozil, with his flamboyant and flair in the middle of the park and having the ability to pick the right pass to his front-three Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.

Lisandro Martinez:
Argentina international Lisandro Martinez is arguably one of the best incomings in the Premier League this season.
Signed from Ajax by former and now current manager Erik ten Hag at the start of the campaign, Martinez hit the ground running and made an instant impact on a Manchester United side that has been struggling for years in the defensive department.
His partnership pairing with Raphael Varane overshadowed one of the most expensive defender Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
United have already won the Carabao Cup, in the FA Cup final and could finish inside the top four and compete in the Uefa Champions League next season.

Kevin de Bruyne:
One of the best players to ever grace the Premier League, it is no surprise that De Bruyne leads the league in assists once again.
It goes without saying that this time around, Haaland has made his job slightly easier, with the striker converting almost every opportunity he creates for him.
De Bruyne has been instrumental in the Man City side that has been playing catch-up to Arsenal throughout the season and will certainly be key in their efforts to retain their league title and eventually clinch the prestigious Champions League trophy for the first time.

Marcus Rashford:
Rashford has been in red-hot form under Ten Hag and forward coach Benni McCarthy this season, proving to be pivotal in front of goal for Man United.
The England striker is seemingly enjoying his football again and back to his old self with being clinical finishing in front of goal. He has broken his personal records and will push even harder and hope to end the season on a high.
