Gavin Hunt confirms transfer window is closed for Matsatsantsa

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that the transfer window is officially closed for Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

SuperSport United host Cape Town City in what will be a battle of the wounded, after both sides crashed out of the MTN8 over the weekend.

The clash takes place at the TUT Stadium in Pretoria on Friday. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.

United have a busy schedule ahead of them, as they will be participating in the CAF Confederation Cup this season.

They qualified for the continental competition by virtue of finishing third in the DStv Premiership last season.

Hunt has since expressed concern of having a thin squad ahead of a busy schedule, confirming that there will not be more incomings at the club.

“The transfer window is closed for us,” Hunt declared.

“I always think that to win the league title, you must build to that in terms of squad – the squad is the most important thing in football.

“You are only as good as your team on the bench, and I know what I am talking about.

“So, if you look at your bench and you’ve got players who can go in and do even better than what you got on the pitch, that’s important.

“But I don’t know if we are there yet. We are very thin, but we are getting better.

“There are young players, six or seven of them that are very good. They are the future but how long can we keep up with them?

“We had one [Thapelo Maseko] last season who was a sensation for us, but he is now gone [to Mamelodi Sundowns]. That’s the nature of business we have, we are in that sector.”

Hunt has concluded his transfer business with the acquisition of Lyle Lakay from cross-town rivals Sundowns. Lakay is yet to be unveiled by the club.

The Premier Soccer League’s transfer window officially closes on September 22.
