Orbit College FC coach, Pogisho Makhoye, asserts that their ascension to the Betway Premiership is a dream realised after 15 years of perseverance.
Makhoye spoke following Orbit’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cape Town City in a brisk Betway promotion/relegation match played on Wednesday, at Olympia Park in Rustenburg.
Letsie Koapeng netted the solitary goal in the 47th minute, igniting exuberant celebrations among teammates and the enthusiastic crowd alike.
“This is a dream that has materialized for us, particularly after a steadfast 15 years dedicated to building this team for this moment,” said Makhoye after their victory.
“The team’s promotion signifies a triumph for the football-loving populace of North West province, who have patiently been awaiting for the emergence of a club that has earned its place in the prestigious league from the lower divisions,” he added Makhoye.
Makhoye also commended the former technical team of the South African Football Association (Safa), led by Walter Steenbok, for their initiative in encouraging local coaches to register for coaching licenses.
“On paper, the coaching license may appear inconsequential; however, I must emphasize that the successes we are currently witnessing, along with our ascension to a superior league, are the direct result of the knowledge we acquired during our experiences,” added Makhoye.
The victory against the Cape side extinguishes City’s aspirations of preserving their elite league status, relegating them to the football doldrums of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The last instance that North West was represented in the top-flight league was in 2018 during the decline of Platinum Stars.
Having successfully concluded their play-off campaign, where they topped the standings with eight points accumulated from two draws and two victories against both City and Casric Stars, Orbit’s focus now shifts to Monday, June 30, when City and Casric will conclude their play-off schedules in a match of inconsequential significance.
