“I will give Nabi the benefit of the doubt. He might surprise a lot of people and deliver trophies at Kaizer Chiefs.” That is according to former Amakhosi dribbling wizard Junior Khanye.
Chiefs recently unveiled Nasreddine Nabi as the new sheriff in Naturena, including his new-look technical team. The Moroccan international put pen to paper on a two-year contract with an option to extend.
Khanye, who is known for his controversial remarks and predictions against his former club, has since been convinced that Amakhosi may have just made the right acquisition of Nabi. He says he may just be the man to turn the tide at the sleeping Soweto giant.
However, Khanye also emphasised that Nabi will be under immense pressure to deliver. This given the expectations that come with coaching a club of Chiefs’ magnitude.
Nabi might be the magic needed
“I will give Nabi the benefit of the doubt. He might surprise a lot of people and deliver trophies at the club,” Khanye told Sunday World recently.
“But it is also a 50/50 chance because there is also a possibility of him failing. After all, there are too many expectations from a club like Kaizer Chiefs. Especially now that he is bringing along his technical team, which means the budget has expanded.
“The reality is that there will be a lot of expectations. Because some of the things that will be key are his adapting to and understanding the culture of the club.
“Which players will he sign? And whether or not he knows the South African players well enough to bring about the change needed at the club?
Put trust in him and see what happens
“But I will give him the benefit of the doubt. And I must say, Chiefs did a good thing by allowing the coach to bring his technical team. We will just have to wait and see.”
Amakhosi are currently in Turkey for their pre-season training and are due to return to South Africa next week ahead of the inaugural Toyota Cup in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
Amakhosi will play against Tanzanian giants Young Africans, while the Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Bloemfontein Legends are expected to set the tone of the pre-season competition.
