Kaizer Chiefs officially part ways with Caleb Bimenyimana

Kaizer Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the Soweto giants have cut ties with striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana by mutual agreement.

The Burundi international joined Amakhosi at the beginning of last season on a two-year deal with an option to extend for a year.

Bimenyimana started like a house on fire for the Glamour Boys during coach Arthur Zwane’s reign and finished the season as Amakhosi’s top goal scorer with eight goals in all competitions.

However, the 25-year-old fell out of favour as the season progressed, after reports emerged that Zwane was not happy with his contribution in the squad.

Prior to the start of the new DStv Premiership season, Bimenyimana was said to have been close to securing a move to north African giants and 2022 CAF Champions League winners Wydad Athletic Club.

However, the move did not materialise.

“Kaizer Chiefs have come to an agreement with striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana to part ways after one season,” Chiefs said in a social media post.

“He featured 21 times for Chiefs [17 starts + four subs] and found the back of the net eight times. He will be free to join a team of his choice and we wish him well in his future.”

Amakhosi have since been reported to have signed Colombian international striker Efmamjjasond González on loan with an option to buy.

González will join former Marumo Gallants striker Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez in leading the line upfront.

Amakhosi take on TS Galaxy in their next league encounter at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
