In what has been an action-packed football weekend, the return of the English Premier League will seal off with the headline fixture between Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Blues of London host the Reds of Liverpool in their spicy opening league encounter at Stamford Bridge this evening. Kick-off time is at 5:30pm.
Chelsea, who had a poor previous season, finishing in position 12, will be desperate to start the new campaign on a positive note and hit the ground running under new coach Mauricio Pochettino.
“Only results will say if we are weaker or stronger than we were last season,” Pochettino said. “We have players with experience playing in the Premier League. We have some young guys with quality and they can perform.”
Across town, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp only managed to land two new signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while two of his key players in Fabinho and captain Jordan Henderson were lured to the Saudi Arabian Pro League.
The battle between the two English giants will not only be on the pitch but also in the boardroom, as the chase for the signature of Brighton & Hove Albion most wanted star Moises Caicedo intensifies.
According to recent reports, Liverpool and Chelsea have sent through their bids of over £100-million (R2-billion), with Brighton said to be only willing to sell to the highest bidder.
In a twist of events, despite Liverpool throwing in the biggest cheque, Caicedo is said to have committed his future at Chelsea.
