Makaringe sends emotional farewell message to Bucs family

After parting ways with the Orlando Pirates on Tuesday, skillful midfielder Fortune Makaringe sent an emotional farewell message to club chairman Irvin Khoza.

The Nedbank Cup champions announced that they would not be renewing Makaringe’s contract, leaving him as a free agent.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that Fortune Makaringe will be leaving the club,” the Pirates said in a statement.

“The club will always be grateful for his contribution and wishes him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.”

Makaringe took to social media to express his gratitude to the Soweto giants and thanked everyone at the club, including chairman Khoza.

Amazing journey full of great memories

“My humble gratitude to the chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, my big brothers, my little sister, and the board of directors at large,” Makaringe wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you very much for the opportunity you gave me to learn and experience what it takes to become a buccaneer.

“You presented me with an image full of responsibility, one that will forever be attached to the Orlando Pirates family.

“It’s with great honour and privilege that I acknowledge that the responsibility is even greater now because I stand to represent the brand wherever my calling takes me, so I will forever be grateful for feeling so valued.

“To the whole administration, the advance team, the medical team, the conditioning team, the technical team, my kit buddies, the media crew, and the sponsors, it’s been an amazing journey full of great memories.”

Midfielder linked with Cape Town City

During the four seasons he spent at the Pirates, Makaringe racked up over 140 appearances and scored 10 goals.

He won three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies with the Buccaneers.

The 31-year-old dribbling wizard is reported to have already landed himself a new club after agreeing terms with Cape Town City.
