Mason Mount given famous jersey no7 at Man United

Manchester United announced the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, giving him the iconic jersey number seven on Wednesday.

Mount joins United on a five-year deal that runs until 2028 with the option to be extended by a further year. He becomes Erik Ten Hag’s first signing ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 24-year-old England international expressed his excitement to join United, adding that it was not easy to part with Chelsea.

“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career,” Mount said in a statement.

“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies. Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag.

“Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.

“I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

The midfielder will don the famous jersey number seven, that was previously worn by the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo, amongst others.

Mount bid farewell to Chelsea through a video on social media and leaves the club having made 195 appearances, scored 33 goals, and contributed 37 assists in all competitions – including lifting the Champions League during the 2021/22 season.

The English Premier League season will begin on August 12 – with United set to open their league campaign against Wolves at Old Trafford on August 14.
