Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has attributed his team’ perfect start to the DStv Premiership campaign to a good pre-season and quality signings.
Masandawana have had a commanding start to their 2023/24 campaign – winning all their six league encounters and recently playing to a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semifinal first leg at the weekend.
As part of their pre-season preparations, the Brazilians embarked on an international tour in Belgium where they played to a 2-2 draw against KAA Gent.
They then travelled to the Netherlands and went up against Eagles (won 1-0) and Sparta Rotterdam (won 4-1).
“I would attribute our perfect start to the season to very good pre-season preparations, not just from the technical perspective but also from the financial support we got from the club with regards to targets we got from the recruitment perspective as well,” Mokwena said.
“The sporting director and his office for the amount of work that they did in that space [of recruiting].
“The support and hard work in getting the players faster than we normally do. So, a lot of credit has to go to them because there are a lot of areas within the football club that don’t necessarily get the credit for their contributions.”
With the international break currently under way and five of his players in the Bafana Bafana squad, Mokwena and his charges will be hard at work in training, with a sole mission to pick up from where they left off.
Bafana play Namibia and DR Congo in friendly matches as part of preparations for World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
