Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has provided a detailed update on players likely to miss the MTN8 semifinal clash against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
Mokwena also touched on midfielder Gaston Sirino’s future at the club.
The likes of Peter Shalulile, Abubeker Nassir, Rushine de Reuck, Thapelo Morena and Thapelo Maseko have been ruled out and are not available for selection.
“We had a little bit of scare on Wednesday in training with Sipho Mbule feeling a bit of pain and swelling on the knee,” Mokwena told a media briefing in Parktown on Thursday.
“Grant Kekana had to go under observation because of discomfort after the match against Polokwane City. However, we are in a better position in terms of injuries than we were before the previous game.”
Shedding light on the disappearance of Sirino, Mokwena said his opinion will not matter, as the club is handling the matter.
“A lot of times when I have to speak about things that happen at the club, I give my personal opinion on some of the matters,” he said.
“Of course, I have a responsibility through the position that I have been given and the privilege to assist.
“Even with that responsibility, I also have a heavy burden of protecting the football club and the players, which then makes it difficult to try and balance the two while also giving my opinion.
“At the end of the day, what happens with regards to all players is the responsibility of the club to give you more information in relation to that. It starts and ends with the club.
“The matter is now with the football club. Once there is further communication, I am sure they will let you in on that.”
