Polokwane City coach has plan to stop marauding Sundowns

Polokwane City have a plan for the swashbuckling Mamelodi Sundowns, according to co-coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

The Rise and Shine meet the Brazilians in a DStv Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday. Kick off is at 5pm.

City have turned the Polokwane venue their slaughterhouse since they returned to the Premier Soccer League at the beginning of the new season early in August.

The Polokwane lads, who are sitting on number six on the log after playing four rounds of matches, have their tails up after an impressive start to the season.

So far, they have lost two away matches to Cape Town City (1-0) and Golden Arrows (3-2).

However, they have registered maximum points in their Polokwane fortress, defeating Cape Town Spurs 3-1 and Stellenbosch FC 1-0.

Sundowns, on the other hand, are in a league of their own. They are the only club with a 100% winning record since the new season started.

They have secured maximum 15 points from all five matches they have played so far, and it will require something special for City to inflict pain on the Brazilians.

Seema admitted that Sundowns are dominating local football.

“Sundowns are just beating everybody, but we have a plan to stop them. I am playing my cards close to my chest and [I] will not reveal a lot,” Seema told Sunday World.

“Playing against Sundowns, you never know which team they are going to field. They know about us and our squad, therefore, it is difficult to plan for them.

“But it is not easy to predict a football match, and since they are beating everyone in the league, they are under pressure because they are the favourites.

“Even though we did not reinforce our squad in the off-season, we will fight for points. We have shown [that] we can fight and the results are showing.

“We will make life very difficult for any club that plays against us. The message is clear, that there will not be any easy points coming from Polokwane this season.”
