Following their 1-1 draw against DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Fadlu Davids has put the survival of Maritzburg United in the hands of Golden Arrows and Swallows FC come Saturday afternoon.
The Team of Choice salvaged a point against the Brazilians at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night to move out of the relegation scramble.
During a post-match interview with SuperSport channel, Davids said the pressure is now on Arrows and Swallows, who will be playing against Maritzburg United’s prime relegation candidates at the weekend.
“We are not really sure if one point is enough, we saw the game with Pretoria Callies [against Polokwane City] and Kwanele Kopo [Pretoria Callies coach], and everything that happened with the four goals,” Davids said.
“Golden Arrows and their players will be under such scrutiny, one mistake and everyone will be saying ‘a goalkeeper mistake by Golden Arrows, what happened, what’s going on’?
“And of course, Gallants will be playing Swallows, their players must play on their toes and must be professional, because the whole world is going to watch. Are they going to give them the game?
“Will Swallows push for the top eight or someone will suddenly slip at the edge of the box and score? The entire country is going to watch these games, the relegation fight.
“Normally we should be there, but I hope it will be live, a live stream on both games.”
Davids suggested that there should be a split screen when both games get under way to avoid any possible match-fixing.
