Sekhukhune United finalising sale of Vuyo Letlapa to French Ligue 1 club

Sekhukhune United FC are finalising a deal with French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice for the sale of rising star Vuyo Letlapa.

The deal for the Bafana Bafana star is rumoured to be in the region of over R20-million, and the club will retain a 30% onward sale in the player.

A well-placed insider revealed to Sunday World that the deal is being handled by the same agent and talent scout who brought Glody Lilepo to Kaizer Chiefs in January.

In March, the hard-running left-back earned himself a call-up to the Bafana squad for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.

Move to Lithuanian club failed

That came after his scintillating runs and hard tackles impressed national team coaches Hugo Broos and Helman Mkhalele.

The 21-year-old Letlapa signed for Babina Noko in the off-season from ABC Motsepe League side Jomo Cosmos.

Cosmos owner Jomo Sono is a former Bafana coach and a talent scout of note.

He has unearthed a large number of players for South African clubs and the senior national team.

At the beginning of 2024, the Bushbuckridge-born defender was set to jet off to join Lithuanian club FK Banga Gargždai, but the move did not materialise.

This followed an outstanding 2023–24 season in the national second division while playing in the colours of Ezenkosi.

Chiefs, Bucs rumoured to be eyeing Makgalwa

In other news from the Sekhukhune camp, Keletso Makgalwa, a midfield workhorse, is wanted by Tunisian powerhouse Esperance and may follow in Elias Mokwana’s footsteps.

Makgalwa has redeemed himself after he joined Sekhukhune from a frustrating spell at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he struggled to break into the first team.

Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are also rumoured to be interested in the talented attacking midfielder.

The 28-year-old Makgalwa is one of the contenders for top honours in the Premier Soccer League awards alongside Lucas Costa Ribeiro, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Elvis Chipezeze.

It has also emerged that Sundowns want their former player back, and he may just find himself back in familiar territory at the Brazilians.

This season, Makgalwa has played 25 Betway Premiership matches, scored four goals, and provided 11 assists in total.
