Sundowns, Chiefs midweek encounter a sold out affair

The much-anticipated DStv Premiership match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs is drawing closer and match tickets have been sold out.

Sundowns will host Chiefs at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday afternoon – a venue that was deemed unfit to host matches for SuperSport United last season. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Masandawana took to social media to announce that tickets for the game are sold out and have since encouraged fans to arrive early at the stadium.

“We encourage all ticket holders to arrive at the stadium as early as possible. No tickets will be sold at the stadium,” Sundowns said in a statement.

The game was initially scheduled to be played at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, however, a last-minute change was made by the Premier Soccer League last week.

Sundowns were off to a flying start and set the tone by beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 during their league opener last week Friday.

On the other hand, Amakhosi were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Chippa United at the weekend.

Despite the victory, Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena said his side needs to improve against Soweto giants.

“In retrospect, my feelings after the game were not as positive as after I watched it, we know we can play better,” said Mokwena.

“We are striving and working every single day to get better, training hard and doing a lot of analysis with the video work and trying to put in the shift. So, we focus on improving performance.

“And by improving performances, we try to make sure that we are good enough or strong enough to win every single match, that’s the focus. I am happy we started with a few points.”
