Sundowns still have a lot to play for – Kekana

Mamelodi Sundowns still have a lot to play for, despite wrapping up the league with seven games to go, that is according to defender Grant Kekana.

Masandawana were confirmed the DStv Premiership champions once again after their city rivals SuperSport United dropped points against Chippa United at the weekend – which meant that no team will mathematically be able to reach 59 points.

Ahead of their league encounter against Cape Town City at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday evening, Kekana said that they are going to approach all their remaining games with the same attitude.

“At Sundowns we play each and every game to win and it will be the same going into the Cape Town City game,” said Kekana.

“We don’t want to be complacent, there is still a lot to play for. As much as we have won the league, there are things like records that we are looking to break.

“The standards that we have set for ourselves at the beginning of the season and is [are] what will motivate us to go on and keep winning games.”

The highest ever reached point tally for the Brazilians is 71 points, and should they get maximum points in all the remaining seven games, they will hit an all-time club record of reaching 80 points in a season.

Sundowns go up against a fifth-placed City side, who a will look to cement their place in the top eight.

“Cape Town City is a good team, they will come out guns blazing, because they also want to reach the targets of last season where they managed to finish second on the log.

“So, it is going to be another tough encounter, but another encounter that we will prepare well for and give it another go,” Kekana added.
